Anderson out of his corset and raring to go
November 15, 2006
Having spent most of the summer in a corset, Jimmy Anderson has been on top form against New South Wales ahead of next week's Ashes series.
The England fast bowler missed virtually all of the English campaign after suffering a stress fracture in his back that required him to wear a corset.
But since the corset has come off Anderson has regained his top form, capturing five wickets in the draw against New South Wales in the first innings and 3-40 in the second.
However, it is next week's Ashes series that he is looking forward to, having been given the final seam bowling position for the First Test by England coach Duncan Fletcher.
"While I was in the corset I didn't think I would be here. I couldn't even think when my next game of cricket would be, but luckily I got through that and got through my rehab okay and I'm glad to be here," the Mirror quoted him saying.
"I never had an operation but I was in the corset at the start of the summer for six weeks. I had to wear it all the time apart from sleeping in it."
Anderson said that having only played 13 tests this is his chance to show his worth, an opportunity he relishes.
