Austen actress not used to corset
August 15, 2007
It has emerged that Anne Hathaway should have worn a made to measure corset in her role in Becoming Jane as she told journalists that the Victorian corset provided for her was too tight.
"It was awful," said Ms Hathaway about her three months in the corset that costume-makers put her in.
"I was wearing it too tight for the first couple of weeks and it would cut off the circulation in my body, so when I would go home my face would turn bright red for about five hours and everybody thought I was a morbid alcoholic."
"The movie takes place at a time that was very repressive for women and the corset helped with that feeling," she said.
The 24-year-old actor said that her producers' lack of knowledge about how to lace a corset correctly was not the only impediment to the filming. She said: "Everything was challenging and every single day was a battle with something - with the accent, with the dress and with the weather, always with the weather."
She also added: "It was a profound experience. I loved making this movie and it taught me so much. I felt like I grew so much while I was working on it."
Luckily, corset experts Vollers can provide customers with the perfect fit of garment - we offer a made to measure corset service that perhaps the costume makers should have taken advantage of!
