Beyonce and Eva set for corseted velvet clinch
November 21, 2006
Beyonce Knowles and Eva Longoria are rumoured to be in-line for leading roles in a film adaptation of Sarah Waters' acclaimed first novel, Tipping the Velvet.
Telling the story of a Victorian music-hall star and her female lover, Tipping the Velvet combines the appeal of a loving relationship outside the sexual mainstream in the vein of Brokeback Mountain, with the sublimely authentic corsets and camisoles of a period drama.
Beyonce commented: "We've had 'Brokeback Mountain' so the time is right for this divine novel to get the same treatment."
Eva Longoria, star of Desperate Housewives, meanwhile, said: "Yes it's true. We are talking about doing the movie together. It's such a wonderful novel, a beautiful love story."
The movie is expected to be directed by Sofia Coppola, daughter of Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, fresh from her corset controlling success with Marie Antoinette.
And having already been produced as a BBC mini-series, sparking great controversy for its lesbian sex scenes and use of sex toys, Tipping the Velvet can look forward to a successful run, at least in the UK.
