Cape Town's fashionistas go for corset look
January 23, 2007
Corsets have been tipped as the must-have item at one of Cape Town's biggest social events of the year.
The J&B Met event is ostensibly a horse race. But with the rich, famous and fashionable of South Africa and the world regularly descending on the event, the outfits in the crowd typically get more attention than the horses.
And this year designer Collette Palin, J&B Met's fashion partner, will be at the centre of attention as he exhibits the latest styles and the best of three decades of fashion as part of the proceedings.
Commenting on the event to News24.com, Palin said that this year would see the corset look make a big impact, along with "deconstructed garments" and white detailed shirts.
"Low-cut, laced corsets and exposed hips and high cut slits are where it's at," he told the website, adding: "This year's look is definitely still bling, but on a more subtle level. I anticipate that we will see a lot of creativity this year, especially when it comes to accessorising."
