Celebrity corsets generate charity cash
October 29, 2007
An auction of corsets designed by celebrities has raised $120,000 to help disadvantaged children, with the creation of Dita von Teese, the queen of corsets, making the most money for charity.
According to Reuters, Ms von Teese's corset is now the most expensive corset in Hollywood, costing one lucky bidder $20,000. Dita designed a white corset embellished with an array of crystals and a burlesque tail of pink feathers.
Last year, Charlize Theron held the honour of the most expensive corset designer when her garment fetched $18,000 at the annual auction for good causes last year.
The second most expensive corset of this year's charity event was created by Scarlett Johansson. For $11,000, one punter received a champagne-coloured corset with platinum glass beading designed by the actress.
Usually a fan of the corset belt, Beyonce Knowles turned her hand to designing a more traditional corset, which fetched $8,000, while corsets dreamed up by Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani also raised a lot of money to help children across the world.
It wasn't only ladies night, as a couple of male actors were also putting their designs up for auction. Andy Garcia conceived a corset inspired by the Cuban flag while Jeremy Piven invented a corset dress with a rhinestones marking out hearts and peace signs.
