Corset ad gets cleaned up
June 26, 2007
An advert featuring 12 models in an array of corsets, stocking and suspenders had had to be airbrushed before London Underground would allow it to be displayed at stations after it was deemed to be too explicit.
The poster, which was supposed to advertise Living TV's reality show, Britain's Next Top Model, still shows the models in corsets and other burlesque garb, but has had areas airbrushed where too much flesh was deemed to be on display.
A spokeswoman for Living TV's marketing department said: "The theme of the shoot was a Burlesque striptease and London Underground said it was too provocative. It has had to be air-brushed to cover up all of the cleavage. There was too much flesh being shown."
A representative from London Underground said: "The ads featured have not been banned by London Underground. The original artwork submitted to London Underground was slightly amended as it was felt that the content was overtly sexual and not relevant to the product advertised."
Nevertheless Living TV's spokesperson said that there was very little difference in the revised version of the advertising.
