Corset beauty goes skin deep
May 14, 2007
Some people are so keen on corsets that they want to wear one permanently. How? Corset piercing.
A corset piercing consists of two vertical rows of hooped piercing on the back, which can then be linked up with ribbon or chain to mimic a corset, according to the Independent Collegian.
Although they first appeared in the late 1990s, corset piercings are becoming an increasingly trendy piece of body art.
Robert Woollard, a piercer at Artistic Creations, says an average corset piercing consists of three hoops per side and is relatively easy to carry out.
"The process lasts no longer than an hour, depending on what the customer wants and [the process is] very easy to do," Woollard said. "It's a surface piercing, which means it doesn't go through any body tissue, and you just pinch up the skin and put the hoop through.
"The most piercings I've done in one session was 28, and that cost a lot of money."
Mr Woollard added that most corset piercings are done for tattoo conventions as a showcase or for an artist's portfolio.
