Corset girls provoke a storm at climate conference
October 13, 2006
A group of corset-clad dancers performing at a climate conference have provoked a storm with their sexy antics.
Performing at the Australia and New Zealand Climate Forum in Canberra the corseted lovelies performed a risqué dance routine that had delegates more angry than aroused.
The dancers, dressed in corsets and stockings, danced provocatively to a succession of 1950s hits, while holding a number of balloons the delegates were encouraged to burst.
But the Australian government and conference organisers have taken a humourless view of the affair, claiming that the routine was too sexy for the context in which it was performed.
The Australian government has even gone so far as to ask for its sponsorship money, totalling some £3,200, to brew returned.
"In retrospect the choice of entertainment was inappropriate for the occasion," a statement from Australian National University said.
However, the dancers themselves have defended their routine, claiming they do not know what all the fuss is about.
"The most that any of the girls get down to is vintage lingerie, which is corsetry and stockings," Rebecca Gale, one of the dancers, told local radio. "There was not even a midriff on display."
