Corset queen takes on football role
October 25, 2006
Helena Bonham Carter, Britain's undisputed corset queen has done away with her corset in favour of a twin set for her new role in Sixty Six.
The English Rose first cam to public attention in corseted roles such as A Room With a View and The Wings of the Dove.
Her penchant for corseted roles continued with performances in Hamlet, Lady Jane, Howard's End and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
But for her new role in Sixty Six she has dispensed with the corset in favour of something altogether more 1960s conservative.
She plays Esther Rueben, mother to the young Bernie who unfortunately is celebrating his Bar Mitzvah on the day of the World Cup final at Wembley.
As his family become increasingly distracted by the prospect of losing their business and dealing with their wayward eldest son, the importance of Bernie's big day is lost on the Reuben family.
And with just three people there to celebrate it with him, none of whom look pleased to be there, Bernie's big day is far from the celebration he has been anticipating his whole childhood.
Sixty Six is due for release in the UK on November 3rd.
