Corsets against cancer
August 2, 2007
A plus size corset has helped to raise over $1,200 for Woman Against Breast Cancer at the Great Falls Clinic's Speciality Care Centre's Prettiest in Pink competition.
Sue Liddell was one of 25 clinic workers to participate in the event, and not only did she help to raise cash, but she also helped to raise eyebrows in her daring cowboy-style outfit complete with corset.
According to the Great Falls Tribune, contestants were asked to dress up in their most extravagant outfits, the only limitation being they must be pink, with a panel of judges awarding the best ensemble.
Over 100 spectators gathered to watch as contestants paraded costumes which ranged from pink lace lingerie to pink sequinned ballgowns.
But it was larger-than-life Ms Liddell, who works in the Clinic's orthopaedics, podiatry and physical therapy department, who stole the show. She came on stage wearing a pink crinolined skirt and a white corset top trimmed with pink ribbon, matched with cowboy boots, a pink-and-white feather boa and a cowboy hat with pink feathers
As she approached the judging panel shooting pink popguns, she made up a ditty to the tune of Nancy Sinatra's These Boots are Made for Walking, swapping the words for "these breasts are made for saving" instead.
It took an entire team to lace her into her corset and attach all the trimmings, but Ms Liddell explained that she was inspired by her cancer patients. "This was my opportunity to say, 'Oh my God, you go through so much,'" she said.
