Corsets 'better than plastic surgery'
July 24, 2007
Australian corset-makers have been explaining to the Sydney Morning Herald that corsets are a cheaper and safer alternative to plastic surgery for women who are not happy with their bodies and can help certain medical conditions.
The corset revival that has been sweeping the UK is also making its mark on the other side of the world, where a large number of corsets and body shapers are available currently on the Australian market.
The maker of the Xtreme Plunge Bodysuit claims that the bodyshaper can help women "lose a dress size".
Bruno Schiavi said that corsets and bodysuits are a better way of controlling your curves than resorting to plastic surgery: "What we're trying to do is discourage women from having plastic surgery by giving them an alternative," he said. "I believe plastic surgery is a lot riskier than wearing a bodysuit. All our garments are quality tested."
Meanwhile product manager at Body Nancy Ganz, Janine Anggara, said that modern body control garments are more comfortable than the 19th century's corsets and could even be of medical benefit.
"Compression and support underwear can aid in faster recovery for certain conditions and therefore many medical experts recommend our products," she said.
