Corsets fit for a Queen
September 28, 2006
One of 1980s pop legends Queen's biggest fans has paid tribute to the band by designing an outlandish range of corsets.
Featuring see-through panels, bold colours, leather and even Ostrich feathers, the corsets are designed as a tribute to the band's garish stage costumes.
One purple corset was reportedly inspired by the song Killer Queen and Marie Antoinette, while another red and black corset resembles costumes and set designs from the video to Radio Ga Ga.
But Marie Keen, a design masters student at the University of Portsmouth, said that it was ultimately lead singer Freddie Mercury's extroverted personality, set designs and costumes that led her to design the corsets.
Portsmouth News quoted her saying: "Freddie was a graphic artist and he was mostly responsible for the band's set designs and costumes. He was so multi-talented both musically and visually. I've been a huge fan since 1974."
Ms Keen said that she hopes Freddie Mercury would approve of her work, which is currently on display on the top floor of the Eldon building on St James's Road, Portsmouth.
