Corsets go to the devils
June 7, 2007
A young folk musician from Casselman in French Canada is following in the footsteps of her folk star father, but would her papa approve of the name of her act?
Daughter of Louis Racine, Melissa Racine has formed a folk group called The Devil to Corsets. The 22-year-old told Ottawa Express that she had always played piano since she was a little girl. Before she took proper lessons, she had taught herself to play and even jammed with her father.
"When my father started to become well-known, he needed a pianist to accompany him. Luckily for him, I was there," Ms Racine said.
Along with her friend, Tommy Dave Harrisson on guitar, her younger sister Christelle on saxophone and friend Amanda Ranger on violin, Melissa formed The Devil To Corsets in the hopes of achieving her dream of a music career.
Currently the group plays dolled up in black corsets and trilby-style hats and red shirts.
The group is named The Devil To Corsets after a song that Melissa Racine wrote herself.
She is also leading a solo career on the side with her own songs. "Unlike The Devil To Corsets' songs, mine are much more pop than folk," Ms Racine explained.
