Corsets prominent in burlesque revival
March 13, 2007
The burlesque style of the 1940s appears set to revisit the fashion world, with corsets leading the charge.
The Seattle Times has reported on the growing interest in burlesque fashion and a modern take on a look that first became fashionable almost 70 years ago, although this revival is considered to be cheeky, rather than raunchy.
Corsets have become increasingly popular in the fashion world recently and the demand for in the garments has also led an increased interest in all that is burlesque.
The burlesque movement has moved out of the underground and into the mainstream, with corset wearers and burlesque stars such as Dita von Teese moving more and more into the public spotlight.
This new phase has been coined the 'neo-burlesque' trend and is gaining in popularity all the time, as has been seen by the appearance of corsets and corset-inspired garments at some of this year's top fashion shows.
