Corsets roll up for burlesque circus
May 18, 2007
Corsets will feature in the award-winning Heavenly Burlesque circus, which rolls into Wellington, New Zealand this weekend.
The show, which first premiered at the Wellington Fringe festival in 2006, winning two Fringe awards, features corseted cabaret performers, who entertain with song, dance, spectacular physical feats and comedy.
Audience members are encouraged to dress up in burlesque-style corsets and cheeky stockings in order to truly enter the world of the Heavenly Burlesque.
Among the performers are Annabel Reader, a saucy shadow stripper, Sheba Williams, professional femme fatale and Auckland guest artist Phillip Patston, who performs comedy in drag.
Guests should not forget to don their most glamorous corsets on Friday and Saturday nights, as there will be an After Show Party with live bands and DJs in the bar.
Jules Van Cruysen critiqued the show in Slaient Magazine: "Needless to say, I enjoyed the show, a lot. It was fun, sexy and highly polished. Unlike a number of similar shows it worked, spectacularly. It changes every night but it promises to remain bloody good. It went off and I will certainly be going again, and again."
