Corsets to be worn for Wild West event
June 21, 2007
New Mexico is going back in history this June for the annual End of Trail event, in which corseted ladies and gun-slinging cowboys will recreate the world of the Wild West.
Every year the event draws over a thousand participants, including members of The Single Action Shooting Society, a group dedicated to all things Wild West, including the Hollywood films spawned by history, BlogCritics reports.
Members of the society create a detailed alias and must wear accurate period costume either from the late 19th century or Hollywood westerns, meaning that women will be expected to don corsets, petticoats and long-sleeved, high-necked dresses, while men will wear spurs, ten-gallon hats and great-coats.
The practice is called 'The Spirit of the Game', whereby participants are supposed to actually 'become' their character.
This year's event will have over 100 stalls and will include a special appearance by Hugh O'Brian, who played Wyatt Earp on television. There will also be a display of six gun choreography by World Champion marksman Jim Dunham, who choreographed work on the film, Tombstone.
Attendees can also dance to cowboy swing music, enjoy mariachi and indulge in free margaritas.
