Corsets to go on display at London museum
June 12, 2009
An exhibition entitled Undercover: The Evolution of Underwear began today at London's Fashion and Textile Museum (June 12th) and will run until September 27th.
Included in the stands will be pieces from the Lana Turner film Merry Widow and the burlesque corset worn by Immodesty Blaize.
Originally intended as purely a garment for health, underwear has seen a huge change over the years, with the exhibition taking a look at the types of underwear worn through the ages to more exciting, racier numbers.
It will also study the relationship between underwear and society, with a look at the changing face of advertising.
This weekend will also take a look at memorable underwear moments in film, including the scene where Vivien Leigh has her corset tightly laced in Gone With The Wind.
The Fashion and Textile Museum was founded by eccentric British designer Zandra Rhodes.
