Corsets unlikely to star at Super Bowl
February 2, 2007
This year's Super Bowl is unlikely to see too many corsets on show, after the unfortunate events of 2004.
The sporting highlight of the calendar in the US, the Super Bowl is almost compulsory viewing on the first Sunday in February across America and until a few years ago, the world famous half-time show had been getting raunchier.
A corset became the centre of the world media's attention on February 1st 2004 - far more so than anything that happened during the game - when singer Justin Timberlake ripped off part of pop icon Janet Jackson's corset to reveal all.
There was a public outcry and all parties began quickly apologising, insisting that the incident was a "wardrobe malfunction" and Timberlake had only been supposed to rip off an outer garment.
But it seems the damage has been done as far as corset-lovers are concerned, because the Super Bowl was so stung by the criticism it has played it safe ever since - for the past two years the entertainment has been all-male, with the Rolling Stones following on last year from Sir Paul McCartney in 2005.
And the Super Bowl is set to keep up its new trend this year, with Prince taking to the stage.
