Cumbrian students create corset fashion
June 5, 2007
An exhibition this summer will feature the works of students in Cumbria, who have tried to combine fashion with meaningful messages.
Sam Spray, who is 19-years-old and from Haltwhistle, incorporated corsetry in her design, creating a wedding dress to promote the idea of all the faiths in the world.
She told the Cumberland News about her design: "I based it on multiculturalism. It was quite difficult incorporating both Christianity and Satanism. It took me three weeks to make it.
"It's got the sleek, elegant satin of normal bridal wear alongside a red velvet panel popular with pagans. The black lace relates to the occult and the corset detail is typical of medieval times."
To catch the corsetwork, people can visit the free public exhibition at the Cumbria Institute of the Arts in Carlisle.
Other textile designs are based on the issues of feminism and global warming and those not au fait with fashion can always check out the other student showcases in the fields of fine art, 3D applied arts and communications.
