Dita von Teese inspired by Madonna's corsets
July 31, 2007
From one corset lover to another, Dita von Teese has revealed that her own choice of garments was directly influenced by Madonna's style.
The corseted star said that Madonna was her idol when she was discovering her own vintage style of corsets and deeply feminine clothing and claimed that Madonna was unique at her time for being audacious with fashion.
"Madonna is the only modern celebrity who is a true style icon. Who else has the audacity to dress like her these days?," Miss von Teese said. "She really influenced how I wanted to look when I was growing up, and made me realise that I didn't have to look like a blonde beach bunny or a Playboy model."
The 34-year-old corset fan also hints to the origin of the worldwide revival of burlesque garments, equating it with the undying feminine glamour of the 1930s and 40s.
The dancer explained: "When I was a girl I fell in love with the femininity and elegance of those decades. I think that period will always influence women's fashion."
