Keira condemns airbrush not corset
August 21, 2007
Although Keira Knightley does not seem to be against wearing a corset when the role requires it, she has hit out against other forms of enhancement of celebrities, especially of the digital kind.
Speaking to the Radio Times, she said that young fans should not be obsessed with her looks as they appear in print, as the images are not the real her.
"Somebody goes, 'Gosh, you're pretty.' Thanks. I've got good genes! OK, I'm on the cover of a magazine but somebody else does the hair, and the make-up, and airbrushes the f*** out of me - it's not me, it's something other people have created," she said.
However, Keira did reveal the appeal of the corset for her, as she told GMTV a few months ago that she would "love to have Monica Bellucci's figure".
The 22-year-old also agreed that her acting skills did not really sharpen until she reached her corset roles. Of film critics panned her acting in Bend it Like Beckham, Ms Knightley told the Radio Times: "I completely agreed on every level. I didn't go to drama school, so I didn't get the training."
After this, though, she received an Oscar nomination for her role in a corset dress as Elizabeth Bennett in Pride And Prejudice, which she revealed was the first performance she was pleased with.
Ms Knightley's new film, Atonement, premieres at the Venice Film Festival later this month.
