Keira Knightley back in corset
July 30, 2007
While Keira Knightley has not worn a corset onscreen since her role in The Pirates of the Caribbean, she is set to star in a corset again for a movie financed by Pathe and BBC Films.
Keira's corset will be in the 18th century style as she plays aristocrat Georgiana, the fifth Duchess of Devonshire, in Saul Dibb's The Duchess, according to Variety.
The corseted aristocrat was an ancestor of Diana, the late Princess of Wales, and apparently lived a promiscuous and fascinating life.
Georgiana was also renowned for being a great beauty and remarkable leader in fashion. As well as corsets, the Duchess wore extremely tall wigs embellished with long feathers.
It was also reported that the Duchess and her Duke took on a friend, Lady Elizabeth Foster, who became not only the Duchess's confidant but also a mistress to the Duke, of which Georgiana was fully aware.
Ms Knightley will be starting shooting in October, in an adaptation based on Amanda Foreman's biography of the extravagant Duchess, who was in turns lauded and reviled in the press at the time.
