Natalie Dormer back in corset
September 26, 2007
Natalie Dormer is wearing a corset again for her role as Anne Boleyn in BBC drama The Tudors, playing opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII in the second series of the TV programme.
While well-versed in the history of the Reformation, Ms Dormer told the Times that the series is gaining popularity for her scenes in a corset rather than the tale of social and religious revolution.
The 23-year-old explained: "We don't show as much of that as I'd personally like. And there is lots of sex and violence in the programme, so it's especially hard to explain it to the guy on the street who's saying, 'The Tudors? Tits, man!'"
Fans of Natalie Dormer will know that she is no stranger to the world of the corset, as she had to put in a burlesque performance for her part in Casanova, playing Victoria in the 2005 film.
But the actress said that some other costumes presented a problem. "Victoria started off with lots of pouting lips and seductive looks," she explained. "But they shot the whole film in Venice, and my first day onset was so hot, I was straddling a fan with five layers of petticoats around my waist, in front of 20 Italian crew."
She added that she seems to only be offered roles which require her to wear a corset, saying jokingly: "I'm tainted by the corset - Helena Bonham Carteritis."
