Nigella buys corset dresses
July 30, 2009
TV cook and domestic goddess Nigella Lawson has reportedly purchased 12 versions of the same corset dress.
The 49-year-old wife of art-collector Charles Saatchi has spent close to £2,000 on 12 identical dresses from a fashion boutique in Kensington, which bear a striking resemblance to the Vivienne Westwood corset dressed she has been pictured in throughout 2009.
Created by TV costume designer Katya Wildman, the 1950s inspired 'Bombshell dresses' are believed to also be popular with the actress Angelica Houston, the Daily Mail reported.
This fifties silhouette design is on-trend this year, with a variety of designers - including Dolce & Gabbana - including the frocks on their catwalks.
Describing Nigella's corset purchases, Natalie Theo, the Mail's fashion editor, said: "It's all very Marilyn Monroe, Jessica Rabbit and old Hollywood glamour."
Last month, a column published in the US fashion bible Examiner claimed that corsets give any women a look of confidence.
