No corset to hide behind for Kate in The Holiday
November 10, 2006
Kate Winslet has revealed she was more nervous about seeing herself in the forthcoming romantic comedy The Holiday than she did for her Oscar-worthy performance in Little Children.
In The Holiday Kate plays Iris Simpkins, a lonely Englishwoman suffering from man troubles who decides to swap homes with LA resident Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz).
But playing an English character is something of a new experience for Kate, famous for her performances as American and, in particular, corset-wearing characters.
"Not only do I keep my clothes on, but I'm not used to seeing myself playing a contemporary English person," she told the Daily Mail.
"I couldn't hide behind anything because I didn't have a dialect, I didn't have a wig or a corset. It's just me in my jeans looking like myself, sounding like myself and, more importantly, trying to be funny."
She need not have worried as with superb support from Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black, The Holiday is a touching and lighthearted cinematic treat.
The Holiday is scheduled for UK release on December 8th.
