Teen's recycled paper corset scoops top design prize

While most people simply toss them aside after a quick scan on their daily commute, one young designer is winning praise from the fashion world after transforming free newspapers into a stunning dress, complete with paper corset.
Yuliya Krypo came up with the idea for her creation after learning about the Metro's 'Re-Create' competition, which challenged readers to come up with a novel new use for discarded papers.
Deciding to combine her love of fashion with her passion for environmental issues, the 16-year-old chose to fold 1,000 origami cranes from 55 newspapers and then join them together in a dress.
Explaining the design of her £1,000 top prize-winning dress to the London-based paper, Yuliya said: "Looking at the completed piece, I saw a picture, where the birds are in a queue for water, represented by the corset, which is made out of paper mache and the teardrop shapes."
According to Tate Modern curator Cedar Lewisholm, who sat on the judging panel, the youngster could have a bright future in fashion and "might even be the next Vivienne Westwood".
Westwood came to fame in the 1970s with her King's Road boutique that stocked a range of punk fashions, including corsets and leather jackets.
