Oz does it with denim corsets
September 10, 2007
A corset buzz has been going on down under after corset designs won the 2007 Jeans for Genes Design Awards.
It may be that Kylie's love of corsets has influenced Australia, as three corsets picked up prizes for this year's Jeans for Genes Design Awards under the heading of Do It With Denim.
Appearing in both the Fashion and Design categories, one bizarre corset contraption won overall while two others featured as runners-up.
Students from 20 states entered the competition, but it was Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE student Cyan Reign's hooded corset with a cropped flight jacket and jeans that took the top prize.
Entitled Flight of the Aviator, the corset outfit was inspired by Amelia Earhart.
Heading the highly commended section in the Fashion category, Leanne Lim's white denim corset dress little with ruffled skirt was inspired by the burlesque dancer, Dita Von Teese.
Meanwhile in the Design Category the National High School winner was announced as Alyssa Du-Shane from Alexandra Hills High School. She said she was influenced by the corsets and other burlesque wear of Moulin Rouge for her white denim gown.
