Pirates steal the show at MTV awards
June 5, 2007
The film series made famous by the sight of Keira Knightley in a corset has just cleaned up at both the box office and the MTV movie awards.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, the second part of the trilogy, picked up the prize for Best Film at the music channel's award show.
Johnny Depp, who stars opposite corseted Keira as Captain Jack Sparrow, accepted the award and also collected his own prize for Best Performance.
Thanking the audience, Depp said: "I'm not very good at this kind of thing, but I just want to say thanks to all of you guys. I'm deeply touched."
Meanwhile Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End has managed to stay top of the box office in the US in the same week that it grossed hugely on its release in the UK.
However, audiences may not be likely to catch Keira in a corset any time soon, as she says she is relieved to take on different roles, such as her latest in Atonement.
The star told Empire magazine: "This is such a relief. Not that I don't enjoy all that Pirates stuff, but it's not about my character - it's about Johnny [Depp]'s character. It's not focusing on emotional turmoil. It's been great just to get my brain engaged."
