Scarlett's corset love affair comes to an end
November 7, 2006
Scarlett Johansson, now almost synonymous with corseted roles, has announced that her love affair with the sensual garment is over.
The American beauty has been as responsible as anyone else for the renaissance of the corset over recent years thanks to her performances in Girl With A Pearl Earring and the forthcoming The Prestige and The Other Boleyn Girl.
But while she admits her corsets have given her a sexy screen presence, making her one of the world's most eligible women in the process, the lengthy periods for which she had to wear them left her feeling "uncomfortable" after a while.
"The costumes are gorgeous and it was fun to be able to play dress up every day," she said.
The effect was not lost on The Prestige co-stars Michael Caine and Hugh Jackman, who admitted that they had difficulty focusing on their lines in her company.
"The two of us were just mainly distracted the whole time by Scarlett. She's got to be up there next to my wife," Jackman said.
However, it is understood that Scarlett Johansson will now focus on more modern roles requiring rather less dressing time.
