Sharapova in corset review
August 28, 2007
Although Maria Sharapova is only 20, the tennis star has already celebrated many tennis titles and various funky outfits, the most famous of which was a corset-dress.
Swapping the corset-dress she wore last year for an outfit that matches the occasion, Sharapova has revealed that she will wear a entirely red tennis dress as she defends her US Open title this year, which complements the New York setting.
Her dress for this championship, which was designed by Nike, will be decorated by New York's skyline, but the tennis ace has fond memories of her corset-dress and other tennis wear considered forward-thinking at the time.
"It's always important to feel comfortable in what you're wearing when you're playing, but in tennis, you can do so many things with your wardrobe," Sharapova said. "I've worn a red top before but never a red dress, but there is no better place to do it than New York."
She said fondly of her corset-dress and other outfits usually deemed too risqué for a tennis court: "When I look back at them, I remember that period of time - and I remember the results," and added that she keeps all her outfits.
Of the corset-dress she wore at the 2007 Australian Open, which featured a white top, and yellow skirt trimmed with black she said: "This dress is a great reflection of the relaxed atmosphere of summer in January in Australia. I chose this design and the colours. I loved the high waist with the bow in the back."
