Simple sewing ideal for updating fashion
October 6, 2009
Learning basic sewing and haberdashery skills can help style-conscious fashionistas update or customise any outfit, it has been suggested.
As individuality becomes increasingly important to UK trends, adding personal touches to core pieces such as corset jewellery or trimming can make a world of difference to an overall look.
Clare O'Brien, co-founder of Makeitandmendit.com, said: "As a society we seem to have got to the stage until recently where we were happy to throw clothes away because a zip had broken, or a few buttons had fallen off.
"There are lots of little things you can do like that to rediscover your wardrobe."
She added that re-working and mending classic clothes such as party corsets, trousers or tailored suits can create an eye-catching look, particularly after weight loss or gain.
Recent research from Weightwatchers revealed that three-quarters of women in the UK currently own clothes they can't fit in to.
