Von Teese talks of corset talent
June 28, 2007
Corset-lover Dita Von Teese has been talking to Metro about burlesque, her act and how quickly she can strip off a corset.
It is rumoured that Ms von Teese can remove her corset in just 15 seconds, but the burlesque diva told Metro: "No one's ever timed me with a stopwatch but it would be interesting to find out. I do consider myself to be a Houdini of burlesque. I can remove my clothing very quickly if I choose to but, of course, part of the art of burlesque is taking your time."
The corseted beauty says that she has performed her famous Martini glass routine at least a thousand times since 1993, but that is not the only act in her remit. Ms von Teese explained: "I'm sometimes accused of being a one-trick pony but it's just that everyone requests the Martini glass routine. I have several new shows in the works I have a giant birdcage, a beautiful swan-shaped fountain I bathe in onstage and a giant powder compact I come out of.
"For the Viva Glam campaign I've created a show where I ride a three metre long bucking and spinning lipstick, cowgirl-style. I have to use all the strength I have in my thighs to avoid getting bucked off."
She also says that burlesque has enjoyed a renewed vigour as women like to adorn themselves with chic corsets and stockings. "Women are enjoying playing dress-up, finding a new version of what they think is sexy and embracing the spirit of glamour and the power that they have when they dress up," Ms von Teese said.
