Wedding corsets still popular in the UK
October 13, 2009
Bridal corsets and A-line skirts have long been a popular style of wedding gown, as the traditional trend "flatters most body shapes" and is great for showing off curves.
Speaking at the National Wedding Show earlier this month, co-founder of howtolookgood.com Jane Galpin said that wedding corset dresses cinch in the waist and create a defined silhouette.
"Key bridal trends are a traditional, simple style, fantasy and glamour. Have a go in a corset style dress and you will notice that lovely hourglass figure that you get instantly," she advised.
Ms Galpin recommended tying corsets up "nice and tight" for walking up the aisle and those all-important photos.
According to Mintel, between 2003 and 2008 the UK bridalwear market increased by 21 per cent. Figures suggest that the sector is now worth £128 million.
By 2013, it is predicted that brides will be spending no less than £153 million on their wedding dresses alone.
