7 Things to Ask/ Look For Before Buying a Corset

There are a number things to look for and ask before buying a corset. Below is an outline of the things that we think are the most important to look for and ask.
It’s all about quality not quantity! A corset with 4, 5 sometimes even six layers does not mean the corset is stronger if the fabric is no good for corsetry. The inner lining of the corset needs to be strong but soft to your skin this is why on all of our corsets the inner lining is made from 65% cotton so that it’s soft against your skin and 35% polyester to give our corsets world class strength.
When choosing a fabric for corsetry the designer needs to considered how it will react when cut into 10 – 12 panels how the possible print or brocade will match.
2. Steel bones
There are a number points to look at with the bones of the corset but here are the main ones:
Are they quality rust proof steels that sit at the right angle so it offers support so that they don’t dig in your side or ribs.
Corsets come with either flat steel bones or spiral steel bones however 95% of good corset come with both.
Spiral steel bones will bend in every direction to hug and support the body were as quality flat steel bones will bend backwards and forwards not side to side.
We believe generally the steels on the back of the corset around the eyelets should be flat so that the corset can’t bend or move when lacing the corset tight and the steels around the corset should be spiral steel bones apart from the underbusk which should also be a flat steel bone.
Waist tape that is visible that starts from the front panel through to the back. Not all corsets have them because simply they don’t need them but most corsets should and do come with a waist tape.
4. Interlining around the steel bones and an underbusk
Steel busks that are protected with interlining and an underbusk to protect the skin so there is no pinching the stomach.
Quality eyelets that are the last construction process using an heavy duty eyelet machine to punch the right amount of holes for the length of the corset – never accept eyelet tape which is very weak.
Strong purpose laces made of made man made fibre. Cord or ribbon will not have the strength for tight lacing.
7. Customer Service
Customer after care that can work with you to ensure you have a perfect fitting corset.
