Corsets for men: Choosing the right corset for you
Friday, 26 February 2016 | Posted By Vollers Corsets
Historically the use and wearing of corsets by men was not an uncommon practice. Since the 1800s, corsets have supplied rigid back support for activities such as horse riding, not to mention the hugely desirable silhouette of accentuated, broad shoulders and a narrow waist.
Today, male corsetry is as popular as ever, whether you’re a man trying to exaggerate the masculine figure, looking to achieve a more feminine silhouette or wearing a corset to support back problems as the infamous Andy Warhol did.
The male figure and corsets
The male anatomy is significantly different to that of a female, a factor that needs to be taken into account when choosing a corset. Typically the male waistline falls lower than that of a female and the torso of a male is significantly longer.
For the purpose of wearing a corset to achieve a more feminine figure, one might think that the male body is not as easily inclined to compress. However, cinching the waist is completely possible, and, as with females, the rate of waist compression varies depending on the individual.
Vollers corsets for men
Here at Vollers Corsets, we suggest that if an overbust corset is your preferred style, a made to measure, custom fit corset is the most suitable. This is to fully ensure that the desired effect on your body through use of a corset is achieved. If you require an underbust corset, this is not always the case.
For example, if one is looking to retain a more masculine silhouette, your corset will be designed to keep the waist lower. Alternatively, if a more feminine silhouette is desired, your corset will be designed with a higher waistline to attain the curvature of a woman.
An underbust corset covers the torso and ribcage and sits just, as its name suggests, under the bust. The underbust style of corset works well with most shapes and accommodates both function and fashion, offering the freedom to wear the corset over your clothes.
A very familiar style of corset, the overbust corsets run from the hips, up and over the bust. Overbust corsets are supportive, comfortable and very figure flattering. They can also be worn as lingerie or as a more of a fashion statement, giving the corset the opportunity to be worn as an outer garment.
Our most popular corsets for men
Our Harmony corset is cut ‘in true corset shape’ across the centre of the chest and can be worn as both and under or outer garment. Supported with steel bones, this corset also includes 4 detachable suspenders and is our most popular overbust corset for men.
A corset to give confidence to the first time wearer, our Paradise corset can also be worn as both underwear and outerwear. Cut and shaped high over the chest, this is another highly popular choice with the male corset wearer.
